Oleg Shpyrko Wins 2016-17 Distinguished Teaching Award

Oleg Shpyrko, an associate professor of physics, has won the 2016-17 Distinguished Teaching Award for Academic Senate Members.

Shpyrko, whose research focuses on nanoscale dynamics and structure of materials using novel x-ray scattering and imaging probes, was cited by the Academic Senate committee that selected him for the award for his “extraordinary excellence in teaching.”

Shpyrko was awarded a National Science Foundation CAREER (Faculty Early Career Development) Award in 2010, Hellman Faculty Fellowship in 2009 and APS Users Organization Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award in 2008.He received his PhD in physics from Harvard University in 2004 and was CNM Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at Argonne National Lab (2005-2007), prior to joining UC San Diego in 2007.
